We are excited to announce that we are launching our joint venture with Maroondah Council and Deakin University. This course will be funded by Maroondah Council and evaluated by Deakin University as a pilot for a “packaged” course that will be made available nationally covering:

Week 1: The Basics of Cooking

  • Introduction to kitchen tools and equipment
  • Knife skills and techniques
  • Cooking methods (sautéing, roasting, baking, grilling)
  • Modelling stir fry as a flexible, healthy concept

Week 2: Essential Cooking Techniques

  • How to make sauces and dressings
  • Cooking with herbs and spices
  • Tips for creating balanced and nutritious meals (colors are critical)
  • Meal planning and grocery shopping

Week 3: Healthy Cooking and Nutrition

  • Understanding nutrition and the benefits of a balanced diet
  • Cooking healthy proteins (chicken, fish, tofu)
  • Cooking with vegetables and whole grains
  • Healthy but still enjoyable

Week 4: The power of the BBQ

  • More than meat
  • Whole meals on the BBQ
  • The use of heat
  • Preparation and presentation

The course would include hands-on instruction, demonstrations, and recipe sharing. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare and taste the dishes they make in class. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid foundation in cooking and will be able to prepare healthy and delicious meals for themselves, their families, and guests.
